Don’t Forget The Fall AC Maintenance This Year!

When most homeowners think about autumn, they think about all the leaves they have to rake in their yards. Don’t forget that part of your yard cleanup should include fall AC maintenance. Cleaning, inspecting and protecting your condenser now will help ensure that it’ll be ready for another warm summer later!

The first fall AC maintenance task you should complete is to turn off the breaker to the outdoor unit. This will prevent your condenser from turning on during unusually warm winter days.

Clean

While you’re raking the leaves in your yard, don’t forget to clear the area around your condenser as well. Leaves often get stuck around the unit and can quickly accumulate, making clean up in the springtime consuming and frustrating. Failing to clear the condenser of leaves can significantly impact its operation in the spring. In order to work correctly, your condenser needs unobstructed airflow and will not work properly if it’s surrounded by leaves.

Inspect

Don’t forget to inspect the condition of your condenser unit while you’re cleaning it. Small cracks and rust can quickly turn into expensive AC repair bills, so it’s always best to take care of any problems as soon as possible.

Protect

After cleaning and inspecting the outdoor unit, protect it from harsh winter conditions with an air conditioner cover. Always make sure the condenser is completely dry before covering it. A cover will help protect the unit from water and snow and will help keep it clean and clear for the next summer season.
