Air Conditioner Causing Headaches? (Literally or Figuratively?)
Is your air conditioner causing headaches? If you suffer from splitting headaches when the cold air flows, you’ll want to schedule an air conditioner inspection as soon as possible. It’s impossible to remotely diagnose how your air conditioner causes headaches, but we find that there are three main reasons:
Dirty Air Filters
AC filters have to be examined and replaced regularly. They should be inspected monthly and replaced as needed—usually every 30 to 60 days. When air filters are neglected, there’s often a buildup of debris, pollutants and allergens that could be dispersed throughout the home. Once these contaminants are circulated, they could cause severe headaches in allergen-sensitive individuals.
Excessive Noise
Although you might not think your AC is loud, it could actually be the cause of your painful headaches. Migraines are sometimes triggered by sounds, and an old, loud and inefficient air conditioner could be the culprit. Modern and new units are extremely quiet and could provide the relief you need from constant headaches.
Dehydration
In some instances, headaches appear because of dehydration. Some people are extremely sensitive to a drop in the indoor humidity and can experience severe headaches from the lack of moisture in the air—especially when sleeping at night.
To avoid an air conditioner causing headaches, make sure to keep well hydrated and try to avoid abrupt temperature/humidity changes. Instead of keeping the AC on all day, turn the unit on when you get home and allow your body to slowly adjust to the change in temperature/humidity.
